Subaru Head Gasket Repair Centre What happens when your head gasket fails? The head of All Drive Subaroo workshop explains: A number of things can happen when your head gasket fails, depending on whether the leak is internal or external. In recent times we have seen an increase in external leaks on the 2.5 litre Subaru non-turbo engines. Subaru head gaskets using “multi-layer” gaskets don’t often fail, but when they do the failure is usually a result either of high mileage or poorly maintained cooling systems. Regardless, the single layer gasket will inevitably fail owing to inherent weakness and ineffective design. Our Subaru Service Centre can fix all Subaru problems, and help prevent them from reoccurring in the future. Call an ADS consultant now on 02 9915 9900
Subaru Cosworth Engine Cosworth/Subaru Formula 1 engine Racing History The name Cosworth is amongst the most respected names in motorsport. The company was officially founded by Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth (hence Cos-worth), in 1958. After initially providing engines for Lotus, the company expanded into manufacturing engines and parts for major auto manufacturers such as Ford and Subaru, and have enjoyed huge success in all areas of motorsport, from club racing all the way to Formula 1. Cosworth manufacture highly engineered internal engine components, as well as peripheral components such as intercoolers, brakes, and electrical components designed to exceed manufacturer’s performance parameters. Cosworth engine internals are tried and proven to increase strength and durability; thus providing an ideal platform for increased horsepower and performance. Cosworth’s long list of achievements, the awesome power of their engines, and their reliability, have placed them amongst the first rank of motorsport players. Cosworth/Subaru SC 400 WRX Impreza Cosworth and Cosworth have taken an interest in Subaru since Subaru’s early outstanding performances in world rallies and other motorsport events, and they now manufacture internal and external components for all Subaru models. From the initial design stages to mass-manufacturing, Cosworth high performance forged pistons are engineered to withstand brutal punishment and still perform as designed. All Cosworth Subaru pistons are manufactured using the same stringent methods as their Formula One pistons and include features such as anti-scuff skirt coating, ultra-strong pins, polished tops and patented anti-detonation bands. Additionally, a unique forging process is implemented to minimize weight and results in the strongest possible piston. The Subaru WRX or STI in stock form is already a potent machine, with finely balanced weight distribution, symmetrical AWD, and a high-output turbo charged boxer engine. Add the strength and F1 specific engineering of Cosworth engine internals, and you have the potential to generate some truly awesome power. You’ll find Cosworth pistons, rods, camshafts and cranks in most successful high performance Subarus on circuits or rally tracks. The outcome of Cosworth’s involvement in Subaru engines is the Cosworth built SC400 WRX STI, with a 0-100 time of 3.7 seconds landing it into exotic supercar territory.
Subaru Engine Replacement Options Repair, Rebuild or Replace? How do I choose? In today’s automotive engine industry there are many terms used to describe Subaru engine repair techniques and consumers are often unsure about exactly what they are getting. Terms like “repaired”, “overhauled” or “reconditioned” or “re-manufactured” can be misleading because they mean different things in different workshops and there is no governing body to set and maintain standards. Sometimes this means consumers are worse off than before, because they might have purchased something that either exceeded their needs, or failed to meet them. Consumers have differing needs, in terms of application and budget. They might need a repair for an older car that won’t exceed the value of the car, or they may want a high quality replacement engine for a late model vehicle that will give long life and high reliability. At All Drive Subaroo we have worked over many years and invested heavily in designing clearly defined levels of engine construction for differing purposes and budgets. Our different engine builds cater for all consumers, from those who need to keep an older car going inexpensively, to motorsport enthusiasts who need an engine strong enough to develop high power with high reliability. Apart from the confusion in the industry as to engine construction methods, consumers have to also be mindful of the different engine configurations. Engines are marketed in four configurations: short block, long bare engine, long dressed engine, and fully assembled crate engine. Which one is best for you will depend on the mileage of your vehicle, and on the condition of the cylinder heads and peripheral components such as the turbo, the coolant and air hoses, and the water pump. The complexity of choice has been made worse by the evolution of Subaru engines into different types for different applications, as well as incremental changes to adjust for new laws and standards,. Subaru engines have developed into several types and capacities, in part to meet consumer demand for style and performance, but mainly for fuel efficiency and emissions control. Subaru face challenges ranging from designing efficient normally aspirated four and six cylinder engines to high performance turbo charged models. Subaru have also worked hard to compete with engine designs from other manufacturers, in terms of servicing and general running costs. Engine purchase cost is another factor that makes choice more difficult. Australian prices are high, compared...
The Company and the People Subaru Engine Australia is a division of All-drive-Subaroo (ADS™). ADS™ started as Metro Speed and Sound, (MSS) specialising in performance modifications and rebuilds, owned by Niazi Helou. Subaru Cooling System Repair Centre Your cooling system plays a critical role in your vehicle’s performance and efficiency. Internal combustion engines are designed to run at maximum efficiency within a narrow temperature range. Outside this range, and engine will use more fuel, or run poorly, and overall engine reliability and longevity will be reduced. If your cooling system fails altogether, the engine will overheat, which could cause head gasket failure, and damage to bearings and pistons. The cooling system is vital. Your Subaru engine is kept at the correct operating temperature by liquid coolant pumped through internal galleries in the engine block and heads. Heat from the internal combustion process is transferred from the engine to the coolant. The coolant then passes through a radiator which transfers the engine heat into ambient air passing through the core. The system is efficient enough so that even with ambient temperatures past 50 Celsius, the engine will still run too cool if the flow of coolant is not regulated, which is done by two parts of the cooling system: the thermostat, and the electric cooling fan controlled by a thermostatic switch. When engine temperature gets too low, the thermostatic switch cuts power to the fan, and the thermostat closes off the flow of coolant from the radiator to the engine. As the engine gets hotter, the thermostat valve opens to allow hot coolant to flow though the radiator and the thermostatic switch turns on the fan to increase the flow of air through the core. This system keeps the temperature so constant that the driver will not see the temperature gauge move, once the engine has reach operating temperature. At All Drive Subaroo we are aware of the importance of keeping your car cool under the bonnet, and we routinely check for leaks or other problems with your head gasket, hoses or radiator., Most of the time any fixes required are easy and simple but some are more complex. We recommend regular inspections for leaks around the Subaru heads. All Drive Subaroo are Subaru cooling systems experts. When it comes to your radiator,or any other part of your car’s cooling system, we are the people to see. Phone us anytime on 02 9915 9900 for expert advice
